Your body needs protein for the proper functioning of every cell and organ and must replenish its stores every day. For this process, the body produces some amino acids, the building blocks of protein, but nine essential amino acids must come from food. Protein shakes provide a convenient way to add protein to the diet but some are easier to use than others.
A healthy woman needs about 46 g protein per day and a healthy man needs 56 g per day, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Eating a balanced diet that includes meat, fish, poultry, beans and dairy products generally provides more than enough protein. However, endurance athletes, cancer patients, weight loss surgery patients and the elderly may need more protein than they can consume through food. Protein shakes can provide the additional nutrition in an easily digestible form.

If you need more calories or have trouble swallowing, you might try the following recipes — but keep in mind that they might not be right for everyone. If you want to increase calories but not fat, try using reduced-fat dairy products, almond, or soy milk.
Follow these basic instructions for the drink recipes:
- Place all ingredients in a blender container or prepare in a large container with a hand-held blender.
- Cover and blend on high speed until well mixed.
- Chill drinks before serving.
- Store unused drinks in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Add 1 to 2 scoops of VI-shake to each recipe to increase protein.
Note: If you cannot tolerate milk or milk products, or if you have diabetes, ask your nurse or dietitian for other recipe ideas, or use almond milk, coconut milk, or soy milk.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago and ever since I started the Vi-PAK, I’ve been feeling better. When I get home from work, I still have a lot of energy to work on my crafts. Thanks ViSalus! I urge everyone to try the Vi-PAK for at least three months.

Within the last two years, I’ve had cancer, surgery, and seven months of chemotherapy. After chemotherapy, all the tests were very positive, however I had no life. There was barely enough energy for me to make it through the work day. My family and friends knew I got home at 4pm and not to call me past 5pm, as I would be in bed. Weekends were gone because of the strain of the work week. My son, Brandt, talked me into at least giving the Vi-PAK a try. Reluctantly I did and after a few days, as I began to eat better and take the Vi-PAK, I felt the difference. I was getting through work without being tired, have been staying up past midnight on the phone telling everyone how the Vi-PAK helped me, and have amazed my family & friends with my energy and new life!
